Starting August 1, 2025, major changes are coming to UPI (Unified Payments Interface) that will affect how you check balances, manage transactions, and even process refunds. Whether you’re a casual user or rely heavily on UPI for daily payments, these new rules are crucial to understand.
Here’s a quick and clear breakdown of what’s changing:
1. Balance Checks Limited to 50 Times/Day (Per App)
Gone are the days of frequently checking your account balance out of habit. From August 1, you can only check your bank balance 50 times per day per UPI app. If you’re someone who keeps checking after every payment, it’s time to slow down.
2. Linked Accounts View: Max 25 Times/Day
Viewing your linked bank accounts will now be restricted to 25 times per day. This could impact users who operate across multiple accounts for business or budgeting.
3. Transaction Status Checks: Max 3 Times/Day
Waiting for a payment confirmation? You can now only check the transaction status three times per day, with a minimum 90-second gap between attempts. So, no more rapid refreshing!
4. Autopay Gets a Time Window
Autopay features will now only work before 10 AM and between 1 PM–5 PM. If you have subscriptions or recurring payments, make sure they’re scheduled within this window to avoid failure.
5. Refunds & Reversals Get Strict Caps
Only 10 chargebacks and 5 reversals will be allowed per month. This move aims to reduce fraud but could inconvenience genuine users disputing failed or incorrect transactions.
6. Receiver’s Bank Name Will Now Be Shown
A small but important feature — you will now see the bank name of the receiver before making a payment. This adds a new layer of transparency and can help avoid sending money to the wrong person.
Sum Up:
These changes, introduced by NPCI (National Payments Corporation of India), aim to reduce spammy behavior, ensure system efficiency, and increase security. However, they also demand more mindful usage of UPI apps.
So before you tap “Send” or check your balance for the 40th time — pause, think, and adapt to these new rules. Being aware today can save you from frustration tomorrow!
Mark your calendars: August 1, 2025 – UPI will never be the same again!
